It’s that time of year again. Just about every week from now until the end of October, there will be fashion week after fashion week in numerous cities on all corners of the globe.
This past week was no exception with Copenhagen hosting the “Nordic Region’s largest event, Copenhagen Fashion Week. Described as a week of “sartorial extravagance”, the runways “came alive with a diverse cast of fashion talents – Danish and international, new and established, classy and street”.
Unlike many fashion weeks, Copenhagen also plays hosts to four trade fairs for adult and children’s fashions, with more than 1,000 exhibitors taking part.
With Danish fashion being known for its unique combination of “modern elegance” and “playful aesthetics” along with a “contemporary approach” expressed in “fresh silhouettes”, it’s no wonder the designers showing at Copenhagen Fashion Week are making waves around the world.
Amongst those designers is Anne Sofie Madsen. Voted ‘One to Watch’ by Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Madsen’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection takes inspiration from the mythical creature Sedna, the “half skeleton and half Inuit goddess of the underworld”.
With this collection, Madsen really worked to tell a story with the “skeleton of Sedna” inspiring her design techniques and the “human side of Sedna” portraying a more “vivid figure expressed through the patterns and fringes covering the garments”.
With her unique storytelling nature and craftsmanship, Anne Sofie Madsen is definitely one to look out for this next season.
Founded in 2004 by Line Markvardsen, the brand Edith & Ella started on a wholesale basis but soon expanded enough to open its own flagship store in Copenhagen.
As designer and director of the brand, Markvardsen always hopes to offer their loyal customers “great fits, perfect quality and exclusive designs”.
Such seems to be true when they showed their S/S 2013 collection this past week. With lots of beautiful florals, playful prints and pastels galore, this collection (which is filled with dresses and skirts) is perfect for anyone who loves a classic feminine silhouette with a hint of attitude.
So, next time you feel like heading someplace “cozy yet metropolitan”, think of Copenhagen… and all it has to offer fashion-wise as well!
